Looking forward to meeting you at our fourth edition of Sélys Milonguero at the Van Der Valk hotel Sélys in Liège.
To keep it intimate and intense, we are planning a gathering of about 180 people with an equal number of leaders and followers in the beautiful dance hall in the hotel itself.
We expect all participants to dance socially while respecting good tango practices (códigos), such as inviting by mirada and cabaceo, entering the floor correctly, dancing in rondas and lanes, etc.
Registrations start on Tuesday, 8 October 2024 with priority given to couples (M/F).
The full package includes 6 traditional milongas and a hotel stay. Refreshments will be offered during the milongas. Alcoholic drinks are available at the hotel bar.
See you soon, Sélys Milonguero team
DJs
Ana Temblador (Belgium) Ana grew up in Andalusia, Spain. Surrounded by music, especially flamenco and tango under the guidance of her parents. In 1997 she attended her first tango festival in Granada, and hasn’t stopped dancing and studying tango and its culture since. Now she has been living in Belgium for 8 years where she began musicalizing local milogas and was soon invited to international events. She likes to create a place where couples can safely meet and connect with each other. Each tanda is about a journey through emotions with the powerful aroma of tango music.
Irina Zoueva (United Kingdom) Irena is a tanguera, DJ and organiser of popular tango events in London and southern England. Her choice of music is traditional and she chooses mainly tangos from the 30s and 40s, with the occasional tanda from the 20s or 50s, or new orchestras from the 21st century. She likes to vary the mood, tempo and energy from tanda to tanda, so the music selection feels fresh and interesting with a selection of only 100 per cent danceable songs. Her goal is to get people dancing from the opening number to the Cumparsita (and beyond!).
Anthony Cronin (Ireland) Anthony has been a tango DJ since 2007. He was a DJ long before he discovered tango, DJing in nightclubs and on the radio in his student days in his hometown of Cork, Ireland. Now he plays in Marathons, Encuentros and Tango festivals at home and abroad with a long list of countries under his belt by now. Anthony is well known on the tango circuit as a dancer and DJ. “As a dancer first and foremost, I know that if I trust the DJ to be consistent, my night is better and this is what I try to give all dancers, comfort that the music will be danceable and flow from tanda to tanda. I want to live life to the full and laugh and that is what I try to give the dancers and their smiles make it all so much fun”.
Michele Sottocasa (Italy) Michele hails from Venice and has more than 20 years of experience as a DJ. He has been shaping the scene in Veneto for decades and is widely known in northern Italy and Lombardy as a beloved and popular DJ. With the 100% traditional milonga “Picaflor” in Venice, he is the pioneer of the milonguero scene in northern Italy. He is also the organiser of the Encuentro series “Rendez-Vous Milonguero” in Bologna and Venice. Michaele plays music from the 30s and 40s and puts special emphasis on social dancing, that is, everyone with everyone and curiosity about new things.
David Thomas (United Kingdom) David is a frequent guest DJ in the UK and across Europe. He is the author of the ‘Get To Know Tango’ series of books: Twenty Tango Orchestras & the Tango Pioneers (Origins to 1935) and is the President of the UK Argentine Tango Association.
Jack Rombauts (Belgium) Organiser of Encuentro Boca Antwerp, Sélys Milonguero and X-mas at Embrace and Milonga Milonguero New Kwartier in Antwerp. In his 25 years as a tango dancer, he evolved towards the Milonguero style. He has been a DJ for over 17 years, playing music at milongas, festivals and encuentros all over Europe. He always chooses danceable energetic feel-good music from Golden Age orchestras and always in function of the dancers on the pista.
